One night President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of routine and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that wasn’t too luxurious. When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the President’s Secret Service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private. They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner. Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle, “Why was he so interested in talking to you?” She mentioned that in her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her. My mom and stepdad, Ben, are paying for nail school!!!!

This is huge. HUGE!!

I need 50 hours more to complete my CA certification, but those measly 50 hours will cost me around $1,200 all told. Twelve hundo big ones I have not. And I only have to pay back half!!!

I honestly can’t write about this without tearing up. I have a hard time asking for help or accepting money, but dammit, I’m taking this gift.

See how everything starts to work out when you follow your happiness?

Now please excuse me while I go cry tears of joy into my coffee.

In my search for possible nail-ternatives in completing my CA hours, I came across the OPI scholarship program. On the list of approved schools was Marinello, which has locations all over the country.

I called, and set up an appointment for last Friday, which I ended up having to reschedule for tomorrow, Tuesday.

Today I receive a call from a female representative from Marinello that went something like this.

Answered on Speaker with my friend Todd, a stylist & former student, there to witness.

MARINELLO REP
Ms. McCarthy, you had an appointment with us today to see the school, which you missed…

ME
Oh! I’m so sorry. But I think we said Tuesday. I wrote down Tuesday.

MARINELLO REP
(WITH LOTS OF ATTITUDE)
I WILL ASSUME YOU ARE NO LONGER INTERESTED.

(Then why are you calling me?)

ME
Did you hear what I said?

MR
No, I did not. (Because I was berating you.)

ME
I said I thought we had agreed on Tuesday. I’m very sorry for the confusion.

MR
Well, I assume you are no longer interested since you have now missed TWO APPOINTMENTS.

(Nope. I missed none.)

ME
You’re throwing a lot of attitude at me…

MR
What did you say?

ME
I said you’re throwing a LOT of attitude my way. So no, I’m no longer interested.

MR
My boss is sitting here, and I’m not throwing attitude at you. I’M SORRY IF YOU FEEL THAT WAY. Good bye. *click*

And then she hung up on me.

Exciting News!

This may only be exciting to me (and my mom), but I’ma share it anyway…

I’m going to beauty school!

As my friend Kate said, “You are reverse Frenchie!”

I’m so, so, SO EXCITED.

What prompted this? Well, 14 years ago I almost went to cosmetology school. Instead, I went to nail school and then promptly ignored my abilities for 14 years because I was ashamed of them. Can you imagine? My thinking was honestly that my friends were off earning legit degrees at legit colleges and universities and I was…doing nails :/

But now that I’ve rediscovered my passion for nails, I want more! There is no shame in being good at something and I have the passion and natural ability to make people look fabulous. Why deny myself true happiness?

I will still be performing. My goal after school is to host my own makeover show helping women find their true selves through fabulous makeovers. Going pink helped me realize the true me I’ve been hiding away for, well, 14 years, and the more I let her out the happier I am.

So start booking your appointments now, ladies and germs, because this bird’s gonna FLY!
